ABOUT

THE STUDIO.

Crafting beautiful residential spaces with purpose.

Rust Architects is a New Zealand–based architecture practice specialising in residential, including new builds, renovations, and interior architecture. The studio is known for clear planning, careful material decisions, and technically resolved, buildable work.

What we do

We design homes and commercial spaces that are practical, enduring, and well considered.
Our work includes:

  • Residential architecture

  • Renovations and alterations

  • Interior design, bespoke furniture and styling

Each project balances spatial clarity with technical rigour, ensuring spaces function well both now and over time.

Design approach

Our work is shaped by how buildings are made. We focus on:

  • Legible, efficient planning

  • Material layering and interior architecture

  • Constructability and coordination

Projects begin with careful listening and evolve through close collaboration with clients, consultants, and builders.

The studio

Founded in 2024, Rust Architects is led by Rachael Rust, a Registered Architect with over ten years’ experience across New Zealand, London, and Amsterdam. Her background spans high-end residential work and large-scale commercial projects.

Experience at UNStudio, Fearon Hay, and Cheshire Architects informs a design process that combines strong ideas with precise technical execution.

Interiors, materials & delivery

The studio has a particular interest in interior architecture, material composition, and bespoke detailing, with interiors considered integral to the architecture as a whole.

Rust Architects works using BIM-led processes to support clear coordination and efficient delivery, resulting in architecture that is robust, buildable, and quietly enduring.
